GAY MARRIAGES Essay Example For Students

GAY MARRIAGES Essay Gay MarriageShould gay relationships be lawful? Plainly we as a country are unsure on this issue. 36 states have passed enactment restricting gay relationships, yet the territory of Vermont recentlypassed a law that permits gay couples the option to take an interest in common associations. Someother states are additionally discussing whether to permit these couples to wed. Tragically, the contest has left the United States gay network in anawkward position. There are a few people who imagine that gay individuals have no rights andshould never be permitted to wed. Others accept that gay individuals are simply likeanyone else and ought to appreciate indistinguishable rights and benefits from heteros do. I thinkthat the United States ought to permit these couples to wed simply like some other couple. There are numerous rivals of gay individuals for what it's worth, and they all have their reasons todislike letting them get hitched. One of the fundamental reasons is that the primarypurpose of marriage is multiplication. Since gay couples can't have kids, they ought not be permitted to wed (Schiffen 495). Another principle contention is that the word marriage implies the association of one man and one lady. This is a long-standing subject of most significant Western religions. Under a proposed bill known as the Defense of Marriage act, marriage is characterized as a lawful joining between one man and one lady as a couple. Moreover, it characterizes a mate as an individual of the other gender who is a spouse or wife (What 1). Under these rules, it is very evident that gay couples would not be qualified for marriage. Individuals against gay marriage likewise state that it isa people decision to be gay. Since the individual decides to be a gay, they shouldnot be given exceptional bene fits. Another contention that you hear is that these couplesshould not get hitched just as a result of the torment and disparagement they would be facedwith in their regular day to day existences. There are news reports from across America telling abouthow a gay individual was beaten or murdered on the grounds that they were taken a gander at as various. A portion of these individuals would wind up the objective of boisterous attack and perhaps physicalabuse, in light of the fact that some hetero individuals consider them to appear as something else. There are likewise some senseless contentions that ought to be disposed of right away. One of these contentions is that marriage is customarily a hetero establishment. Having intercourse to another man removes everything that is manly about you additionally is supposed to be an explanation against gay individuals. Another contention that isn't extremely substantial is that equivalent sex marriage would begin us down a dangerous incline towards legitimized interbreeding, brutal marriage, polygamy and every other sort of unpleasant outcomes (Bidstrup 2-3). These contentions are ridiculous to try and consider as real contentions from canny individuals. As per the United States Constitution, each individual has the option to thepursuit of bliss, and the Supreme Court has expressed that marriage is fundamental to theorderly quest for joy (Stoddard 492). The central governments explanation clearlycontradict that state laws that are presently as a result. You hear the platitude, America is thehome of land, freedom, and the quest for bliss. Alongside the quest for happinessbeing encroached on, the people freedom is additionally to some degree removed. Numerous peoplecome to America since its the Home of the Free. This is an opportunity that is beingtaken away from these couples. On the off chance that America were a genuinely free nation, these couples wouldbe permitted to wed with no difficulties. Clearly gay people are not being dealt with decently. By denying gaymarriages, gay people are put at monetary, lawful, and individual detriments. In fact, gay rights activists have refered to more than 300 advantages that gay couples are not allowed toenjoy (The Case 1). This is a lot of rights that are being detracted from thesehomosexual couples. Consider these three instances of how the social equality ofhomosexuals are abused. To begin with, gay people and their life partners are denied the option to guarantee the bequest oftheir life partners if there is no will introduc e when one of the accomplices bites the dust. In heterosexualmarriages, companions are qualified for in any event a bit of the life partners bequest except if thespouses will expressly states in any case. This isn't really the standard for individuals whoare together, yet not lawfully wedded. Since gay couples are not permitted tomarry, the life partner isn't ensured the advantage of access to the state. Anne Frank Remembered: Review EssayMany individuals would likewise have strict issues with having gay couplesjoin in a common association. Conventional strict perspectives in the United States, for example, those held bythe Roman Catholics and Protestants, see homosexuality as shameless and evil. Be that as it may, one of the establishments of our legitimate framework is the detachment of chapel and state. In a nation as socially assorted as the United States, it is difficult to satisfy everyreligion. This is the motivation behind why we make the qualification among chapel and state. Justas various religions have various perspectives on issues, for example, fetus removal, diverse religionshave various perspectives concerning gay marriage. For instance, gay relationships havebeen acknowledged for a considerable length of time in the Buddhist people group (Bidstrup 5). This is one of the oldestreligions, yet marriage between gay individuals is acknowledged. As found in the Hawaii case, the discussion over gay marriage has been questioned foryears. Vermont has been the main state to allow these individuals to wed in their state. At the point when outsiders come to America, commonly they go under the conviction that they havethe decision to be anything they desire to be. This remains constant for any extraordinary race whocomes here. Lamentably, America isn't yet genuinely free, not until we as a nationrecognize the gay network and start to pay attention to them. The reasoningagainst gay relationships doesn't bode well. Sanctioning gay relationships is the main logicalchoice while thinking about this issue. Gay people have nontraditional accomplices, yet thatdoes not imply that they love each other any not exactly hetero couples do.

Getting into the Ivy League

Getting Into the Ivy League May 14, 2012 Our founder, Bev Taylor, recently wrote an article published by The Huffington Post about how getting into the Ivy League isnt random. In fact, getting into the Ivy League is more of a science than anything else. It frustrates us to no end when we hear students and parents lament that the Ivy League admissions process is completely out of their control, that it comes down to luck. Is there luck involved in the Ivy League admissions process? Sometimes. As an example, it can help if your regional admissions officer once attended the high school you attend. It can help if your regional admissions officer received word right before they reviewed your application that they were accepted to a prestigious graduate program. So, sure, theres a small (with an emphasis on the word small) element of luck involved in the process. But, at the end of the day, that luck is really just the familiarity principle and the primacy effect, respectively, from social psychology. So even that is a science! Getting into the Ivy League is anything but random. It is, in no uncertain terms, a science. And that science includes not writing about trips on college essays! Oy vey (photo credit: Pazit Polak). The fact is that getting into the Ivy League has little to do with luck. As Bev states in the article, Once an entire application is received (transcript, high school profile, standardized test scores, letters of recommendation, school report, teacher evaluations, the application itself, and its supplement including all the required essays), an applicant is initially evaluated based on his or her Academic Index (A.I.). The A.I. is a number based on a formula using a students GPA, class rank, SAT or ACT scores, and SAT Subject Test scores. Some of the colleges in the Ivy League use an A.I. on a numeric scale of 1-9 with 9 being the strongest, while others use a scale from 1-5. Does the word formula strike you as synonymous with luck? We didnt think so. And what about college essays? Do you feel like evaluating college essays is an inherently subjective process? It isnt. A good college essay is a good college essay one that can make the difference between getting in and getting rejected. A bad college essay is a bad college essay. The vast majority of essays submitted to highly selective colleges fit into this category. If you wrote an essay about a trip, about what you learned from your grandmother, or about working in a soup kitchen, your college essay fits neatly into this category. So, no, getting into the Ivy League is anything but random. Is there a little bit of subjectivity when applications are holistically reviewed? Yes. But theres not a whole lot of subjectivity. Its a process that can most certainly be reduced to a science. And thats what we do for all of our students

Government Internet Intervention Essay Example For Students

Government Internet Intervention Essay Government Internet InterventionThe Internet is a method of communication and a source of information that is becoming more popular among those who are interested in, and have the time to surf the information superhighway. The problem with much information being accessible to this many people is that some of it is deemed inappropriate for minors. The government wants censorship, but a segment of the population does not. The Internet should not be considered a bad source for people, considering all the uses and information it distributes. During the past decade, our society has become based solely on the ability to move large amounts of information across large distances quickly. Computerization has influenced everyones life. The natural evolution of computers and this need for ultra-fast communications has caused a global network of interconnected computers to develop. This global net allows a person to send E-mail across the world in mere fractions of a second, and enables even the common person to access information worldwide. With the advances with software that allows users with a sound card to use the Internet as a carrier for long distance voice calls and video conferencing, this network is the key to the future development of technologies. At present this net is the image of the First Amendment: freedom of speech. It is a place where people can speak their mind without being reprimanded for what they say, or how they choose to say it. Recently, Congress has been considering passing laws that will make it a cri me punishable by jail to send vulgar language over the net. The government wants to maintain control over this new form of communication, and they are trying to use the protection of children as a smoke screen to pass laws that will allow them to regulate and censor the Internet, while banning techniques that could eliminate the need for regulation. Censorship of the Internet threatens to destroy its freelance atmosphere, while methods such as encryption could help prevent the need for government intervention (Levy 56). The current body of laws existing today in America does not apply well to the Internet. Is the Internet like a bookstore, where servers cannot be expected to review every title? Well, according to an article written by Michael Miller in PC Magazine, The Internet is much more like going into a book store and choosing to look at adult magazines (Miller 75). The Internet differs from other forms of media. In that one cannot just happen upon a vulgar site without first, either entering a complicated address following a link from another source, or by clicking on the agreement statement at the beginning of the site acknowledging that one is of the legal age of 18. This lawless atmosphere bothered many people. One such person is Nebraska Senator James Exon (D), who is one of the founding fathers of the Telecommunications Decency Act of 1996 which regulates any obscene or indecent material via the Internet to anyone under 18 years of age. Exons bill would also according to an article written by Steven Levy in an April 1995 issue of Newsweek magazine criminalize private mail, Levy also stated emotional I can call my brother on the phone and say anything-but if I say it on the Internet, its illegal (Levy 55). One thing that Congress seems to have overlooked in its pursuit of regulations is that there are no clear boundaries from information being accessed over the Internet from over countries. All it takes is a click of a mouse to access, even if our government tried to regulate information accessed from other countries, we would have no control over what is posted in those countries, and we would have no practical way to stop it. Todays Internet works much like that of our own human brains. In that if one barrier or option is taken, your brain tries to find an alternate route or option. Todays Internet works on a similar design, if a major line between two servers say in two countries, is cut, then the Internet users will find another way around this obstacle. This process of obstacle avoidance makes it virtually impossible to separate an entire nation from indecent information in other countries. If it were physically possible to isolate Americas computers from the rest of the world, in my opinion it would be devastating to our economy. .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9 , .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9 .postImageUrl , .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9 , .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9:hover , .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9:visited , .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9:active { border:0!important; } .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9:active , .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9 .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u163d2fd25288ac45c09828ff15ec8be9:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: An Ecosystem's Disturbance by a Pollutant EssayIn an article published in Time magazine, written by Philip Emler-Dewitt Martin Rim put together quite a large picture collection (917,410 images) and he also tracked how often each image had been downloaded (a total of 6.4 million). A local court had recently declared pictures of similar content obscene, and the school felt they might be held responsible for the content on its network. The school administration quickly removed access to all these pictures, and to the newsgroups where this obscenity is suspected to come from. A total of 80 newsgroups were removed, causing a large disturbance among the student body, the America n civil Liberties Union, and the Electronic Frontier Foundation, all of whom felt this was unconstitutional. After only half a week, the college had backed down, and restored the newsgroups (Emler- Dewitt 102). This is only a tiny example of what may happen if the government tries to impose censorship. Regardless of what types of software or safeguards are used to protect the children of the information age, there will always be ways around them. As stated by Michael Miller When it comes to our children, censorship is a far less important issue than good parenting. We must teach our kids that the Internet is an extension and reflection of the real world, and we have to show them how to enjoy the good things and avoid the bad things. This is not the governments responsibility. Its ours (Miller 76). An example of the government trying to get around something is the whole issue with Napster. Shawn Fanning an 18-year-old college dropout wrote the code that changed the world. His fate, and ours, is now in the courts hands. It is now in the governments hands to decide whether worldwide file sharing shall stay legalized Napster is not harming the industry, certainly not so much that it has to be shut down before trial (Greenfeld 64). Many people feel this way about the program. Many artists even feel this way about the file-sharing program. Actress/grunge rocker Courtney Love says, Why arent record companies embracing this great opportunity? Why arent they trying to talk to kids to learn what they like? (Greenfeld 66). Her and many other non-greedy musicians feel this way about the program. It is shown that Napster has not made a difference in CD sales. Although Napster might seem to be taking sales away from the record companies, CD sales have actually increased in the Napster era b y $500 million this year alone (Greenfeld 66). This shows that Napster is actually a promoter for CD sales. This is probably because the people sample the music and then go and buy it. Until the development of the Internet, the U.S. government controlled most of the new communication techniques. With the development of faster personal computers and the addition of the worldwide web, they had no control over the vast range of this style of communication. To stop the spread of data the U.S. government has imposed strict laws on the exportation. This is explained in an article by Phil Zimmerman To send a encoded message to someone, a copy of that persons public key is needed. The sender uses this public key to encrypt the data, and the recipient uses their private key to decode the message (Zimmerman 3). As with any new technology, this program has allegedly been used for illegal purposes, and the FBI and NSA are believed to be unable to crack this code (Zimmerman 4). Zimmermans reply to his knowledge of this rumor was quoted in Steven Levys article in Newsweek If I had invented an automobile, and was told that criminals used it to rob banks, I would feel bad, too. But most people agree that the benefits to society that come from automobiles taking the kids to school, grocery shopping and such outweigh their drawbacks (Levy 56). .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276 , .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276 .postImageUrl , .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276 , .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276:hover , .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276:visited , .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276:active { border:0!important; } .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276:active , .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276 .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u6f226619868f88360c2f5f9f323d3276:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Theme of Conflict in Romeo and Juliet EssayAs the Internet continues to grow throughout the world, more governments may try to impose their views onto the rest of the world through regulations and censorship.
